Increase in Airport Traffic Puts Pressure on TSA

The daily number of flyers is reaching an all-time high. In a recent article from the Los Angeles Times, the publication discusses the problems this creates. The increase in airport traffic begs the question of whether or not the airports, and specifically security, are ready for this saturation.

In fact, on June 29, the TSA reported that it screened 2.67 million travelers in total that day.

Airport executives are concerned. “Long term, this is an issue that every airport has been grappling with,” said Joel Bacon, executive vice president of government and public affairs at the American Assn. of Airport Executives. “Our aging facilities are not intended to accommodate the kind of crowds we are seeing.”

Executives propose an increase in the passenger facility fee that applies to every airline ticket.

Presently, this charge is $4.50, but executives are hoping to raise the fee to fund money for the airports. However, airline trade groups oppose this fee. They think that it would drive customers away, resulting in an overall loss in profit.

With this increase in airport traffic, it has never been more important to consider airport concierge services for your travel experience. Skip the line, eliminate the hassle, and get to your destination stress-free. Find out how.
